Sheriff R.P. "Pat" Burnett Jr. and the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office Employee Association organize an annual golf tournament raising funds for the the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Scholarship as a way to give back to the Van Zandt County Community. Every year, local businesses, community leaders, and Van Zandt County individuals sponsor the tournament in an attempt to raise $4000 to be used as scholarships. If, however, the full $4000 is not raised, Sheriff Burnett donates the remainder from his own salary. Sheriff Burnett and the Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office Employee Association support these scholarships to help enable local high school seniors to attend college.
